My 70's Vibe

Yes, I very vividly remember Bell Bottom Pants.  I had one pair of Bell Bottom jeans that were my absolute favorites.  One New Year's Eve when I was in the 10th grade I was sick with the flu.  I remember staying up watching Dick Clark's Rocking New Year's Eve television special while I embroidered flowers and butterflies and all kinds of fancy stitch work all around the bottom of my bell bottom jeans.  I embroidered up the side seams and on all of the pockets.  I loved those jeans....i wore them all of the time.  I wore them so much that I wore the butt thin and had to sew patches under the back pockets.  My mother threw those out in the trash 2 or 3 times and I kept retrieving them and patching them some more.

A sweet little pattern that could very easily have been produced in the 1970s.

I don't think I have anything in my closet that I am that attached to these days, but I did purchase a pair of "take me back to the 70's " style bell bottom pants that are really quite a lot of fun.   They are by Jessica Simpson ( purchased at Belks)  and they are a fitted pull-on style pant.  They are quite fitted to the knee and just below the knee they flair into a nice "Old Style" Bell Pant. The pattern on the fabric is also, very reminiscent of the 1970s...a nice floral/paisley print in turquoises and corals.

Normally I would not pair a top that flairs out at the hem with a bottom or pant that is full.  I did go against my rules and paired a flaired top with these bell bottom pants...only because the leg on the pant is quite fitted from my thigh all the way down to just below the knee.   The blouse I am wearing is by Fever (sold at Belks). If I wear a fuller type pant, I keep the top lean and cut close to the body.  If I wear a more flowing fuller blouse, I wear a skinny legged pant.  This blouse fits close to my bust and waist before it flairs and it flairs where the pant is tight (or fitted), so I took the chance and I kind of liked the look.  Some may say that the "cold-shoulder" top is on it's way out for now.  I may even tend to agree with that statement.  However, I am married to a very handsome man who loves my shoulders.  So, there you have it!  They will not ever go out of style in the Budjenska home!  Haha!

My daughter and I were heading out today to do some Christmas shopping.  This is my favorite time of the year.  I love how the malls are decorated with tinsel and lights and Christmas music is playing everywhere.  I have a birthday coming up soon.  My mother always told me that I knew something special was going on.  My arrival into this world was on December 20th...I wasn't supposed to be here until the middle of February.  Merry Christmas!!!

It's been kind of rainy and cold here in Texas.  It seems like we went form 100 degrees to 40 in a weeks time.  But, that is how it is in Texas. They say if you don't like the weather in Texas...just wait about an will change.  Because it was cold and wet, I didn't want to risk getting a nice pair of shoes muddy, so I chose my favorite "stand-by" boots by Gianni Bini (Dillards).  I have had them for several years and they are so comfortable. I am wearing them out and it makes me sad to think I may have to ditch them some time soon.  :(

I don't usually wear anything that draws a lot of attention to my chest.  I wear a 30G bra (hesitantly stated) and my only salvation there is that I usually wear size 2s.  That 30" rib cage area allows me to disguise that pretty easily.  I tried to wear the ever-popular "infinity" scarf...but I found that it just sits on my chest as if that was what it was made for.  No!  If you have that problem...or blessing... try to avoid things that add bulk in that area.  Wear scarves that are less bulky...ones that create a longer/leaner line.  Or, wear a necklace that sits up in the neckline of your blouse that draws attention up toward your face.  You could also try one of the new fashionable long drop pendant necklaces that fall below the chest area (down around the waist).  There are several out in the stores right now with interesting lockets, tassels, etc.  However, I do have a couple of Statement Necklaces that I love and the one I have on today is one of my favorites.  I don't wear it often, but it has all of the colors that are in my pants so I pulled it out for the day! It is from one of my all time favorites stores: Boston Proper. (

I like things and clothing that take me back in time.  Bell bottom pants most definitely do just that.   These are fun and comfortable.

One of the most enjoyable things about our day, was that every store we went in was playing music about the Christ child.  Keep that in mind as you go about your preparations for the 25th of December.  He Is The Reason For The Season!  Enjoy this time of the year.  Celebrate our Savior and Share His Joy!  Joy To The World The Lord Is Come...

Blessings to all of you,

Cathy Budjenska

11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.  12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.  13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,  14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.  Luke 2:11-14
